Blog 1 - Wednesday, September 9, 2015

There will only be one (1) blog this week

Growing up in the west island, I have always felt safe. I have never feared walking down the street alone, or even waiting at a bus stop at night on my own. I wish everyone could feel  as safe in their neighborhood as I do in mine.

Do you feel that your neighborhood is safe?  What makes it safe?  What do you think needs to be done to make it safer?  Explain.

  1. I think that my neighbourhood is quite safe, although at night I might be afraid that someone may be following me and might kidnap me when I walk alone. since I do have to know that there are terrible people like that in the world who would do that. however, I generally feel safe when i'm in my neighbourhood, since there are things like the Montreal police and public security. And even if there those people aren't around I know that there will be other people around that will call the police if a crime is committed against me.

    1. It's pretty good to know that you have certainty that you can count with your neighbors if something bad happens to you!

  3. I do believe my neighborhood is safe. I have never heard or seen a crime in my neighborhood, police are always circulating around as we are close to the Fairview shopping center. The neighborhood I live in has a lot of kids, they play at the park and on the street. Whenever I wait at the bus stop, I don’t feel unsafe or threatened in any way. What makes the neighborhood safe is that there is a lot of police circling around because it’s really close to Fairview and I have good neighbors and they will do the right thing if they see something wrong.

  4. I feel like my neighborhood is intentionally safe. The reason why is the fact that I literally live near a senior home, because all my neighbors are old people. To top that off, my house is near many departments across the street, such as a police station, and a fire station. Even though a crime can happen anywhere, I feel as though I am in no danger whatsoever.

    3. Feeling super safe with a creepy stalker nearby is the best feeling you can get.

    4. I would be safe with my two dogs if they were ten years younger and are able to hear people walking by... but since one is 15 and the other one is 12 they don't really notice stuff...

  6. I feel safe, I feel safe because I personally know my neighbors and I know that they'd help me if I felt unsafe or in trouble. Some did happen six years ago, that made my neighbors made sure that I was always safe. I was walking home from my local pool and my dad was driving his white van beside me, in someone else's perspective, it would look like he was following me and trying to kidnap me. An hour later, when we were at home, the doorbell rang. I saw who was at the door, two cops with their hand on their gun and five cop cars on the streets. I was a little nervous to see them, but I was glad that my neighbors had my back!

  7. I think my neighbourhood is very safe. I can go out at night with my friends and go on public buses and I feel safe. Everyone in my neighbourhood is very friendly and respectful, and wouldn't hurt or disrespect anyone. I think my neighbourhood is safe because everyone in my neighbourhood was taught at a young age how to differentiate right from wrong, and were raised in a stable home. Although there have been cases where some people that have committed a criminal act were raised in a stable and “normal” family still committed a criminal act. But how you were raised, and what you were taught as a child has a big impact on what your values, and what you do when older weather good or bad.To make my neighbourhood safe, we, as a community can enforce grater consequences when someone does a criminal act, and have police men rome around in areas prone to crime. This alone would probably decrease the amount of criminal acts, and promote a safer and a more humble community.

  8. I find that my neighborhood is safe but like most neighborhoods, at night can be the scariest time. My neighborhood is safe because I know most of my neighbors and they will protect me if I were alone. There is also a lot of children on my neighborhood and that's good because there's no strange people. But at night my uncle got his car stolen and a few months after he got his new car stolen. Something that could also be dangerous is at night time there seems to be a lot of speeders on my street and it could cause an accident.

    3. It sucks having to be scared at night but at least you know that you neighbours have you back and if something happens they will call the cops.

  9. My neighborhood is pretty safe because most kids who live on my street are mostly my age and younger but for the adults its like 40 year old and old people. The only thing that happend on my street is when some people at night went on my street and I think brought the window on my neighbors like 1 year old car so it was pretty new and they were not happy at all. Besides that whole story thats pretty much the only thing that happened on my street so I guess its pretty safe.

  10. In my opinion, I do feel that my neighborhood is safe but like always, nothing is perfect and therefor my neighborhood is not perfect but the only time that it’s unsettling is at night. I feel that my neighborhood is safe because we all know each other very well and have each others phone number in case of emergencies. The only dangerous incidents that have occurred in my neighborhood is vandalism on houses and cares .In my neighborhood, the ages vary from 1 year old to 75 years old and if my neighborhood wasn’t safe, then my parents wouldn’t live in this neighborhood. I think the one thing than we can improve on in my neighborhood is that it’s very dark at night so we need more street lights.

    1. It's really nice that you and your neighbors have this kind of relationship and you can call them if something goes wrong. It must feel like a big family!

  11. Yes I feel that my neighborhood is safe because there are a lot of people and kids who walk around my neighborhood or who play in the park. I also know my neighbors so that basically makes me feel much safer. I feel very safe in my neighborhood so I don’t think there is anything we need to improve on.

  12. I think my neighbourhood is very safe. I can go out at night and take my dog for a walk without being worried or nervous not even my parents are worried when i go out with my dog at night or during the day. I can go walk to the Tim Hortons near my house at night ish with my friends and my parents don't really mind bc the whole neighbourhood knows my family and we know everyone too so we always say hi and bye we talk for a lot and we have street parties so that's fun. so ya i think my neighbourhood is safe. I love my neighbourhood

  13. Comparing to Brazil, my neighborhood is really safe. We have to worry way less about this subject living here. Since we got here, I’ve never seen any kind of violence or vandalism. I can walk alone with my phone in my hand (even at night) and it’s not a big issue if we don’t lock the doors at night, things that don’t happen in Brazil. So it's pretty good.

  14. I live next to Fairview and there's always a lot of people here, and there's always families going to the park so it’s a safe place. I've already lived in 10 different neighborhoods in Brazil and this is the safest one. Here I can walk while I use my phone, even if it’s night, to listen music as well as text my friends. I can go to a walk at 11pm and stay on the park that's two blocks from my house without worrying that someone is gonna come and try to rob me or even try to do "worse things". In Brazil I couldn’t do either of this stuff because it is really dangerous if you do it. Here there's no vandalism or robberies, I'm feeling safer than I’ve always felt.

  15. I usually feel safe in my neighbourhood. I know everyone in my neighbourhood and they are always looking after each other. I live on a fairly busy street and a lot of cars are always passing by so someone would notice if anything was happening. There were a few times when people's houses got broken into but nothing really that bad.

  16. I feel very safe in my neighborhood. I find it super safe iin my neighbor hood because we all know each other. If someone stole something from us one of my neighbors would call us and tell us whats happening and we would be able to call the police. There is on time that we were robbed by one of my neighbors (they moved out now) so we set up and alarm system so that if anyone walks on our drive way or our lawn a light will go off and alert us. And if that doesn't work than there is always the alarm system we have in our house that will alert us if someone opens the door. That is why i feel super safe in my neighborhood.

  17. For me I think my neighborhood is pretty safe but on the other hand near last Christmas my house got robbed. They didn’t steal much of anything worth a lot. If anything they lost money. They used maybe a 300$ ladder to steal 50$ worth in coins. Other than that I felt pretty safe in my neighborhood but that’s a good thing because I need to walk everywhere I go (i.e. to school, music, shopping for food, etc.). I feel safe in my neighborhood because I know a lot of the people in it.

  18. I feel safe in my neighbourhood because I know almost everyone on the street. If anything did go wrong or if my neighbours suspected something weird they would call the police. I also live close to the lakeshore hospital. Since I live close to the hospital my street is crowded and lots of people walk by so that makes it that much harder to rob, break into ect… I can go outside at night feeling safe because I usually go for a bike ride in the evening and nobody's tried to rob me. Even after the school dances I walk home alone. In conclusion I feel safe in my neighborhood and i'm not afraid to go out whenever I want.

  22. Sometimes I read in the news about life in third world countries and it makes me very happy I'm a citizen of Canada. When you live in a third world country, you have to be careful to even leave the house at certain times of day, you have to be careful of anybody you come across. Here I can wander the neighbourhood freely without fear of being attacked. That said, I was once wandering the streets at night, and this giant racoon came out of nowhere. I ran for my life, and it home alive. Apart from that though, life in my neighbourhood is pretty great. In conclusion, the government should exterminate all the racoons.

  23. yes, i do fell that my neighbourhood is safe. I find it very safe because i trust and know all of the people around the neighbourhood. As well the area it self has only had around two or three weird things like pedifiles or drug arrests, but those two are the worst that will happen where i live. I personally think that to make it more safe is to put more lights in the street because it is a very dark neighbourhood. I fined that it would make it more safer because you can see what is around you and it just looks like its a good place to live. In conclusion i think that i live in a very safe neibourhood compared to some others that i see in the west island.

  24. I grew up in 2 neighbourhoods as a kid and by far the safest one was the west island. Ive lived in dorval and beaconsfield as well as ndg and cote st luc, but i do have to say ive seen more drugs in the west island than csl , i do feel safe but every neighbourhood has its problems and its stoners as long as everyone keeps it real. not ever have i felt like i was going to be robbed or raped in the west island even though in certain parts there are gangs that can show these violent actions. Ive always preferred living closer to the city so its easier for me to go, but with that comes caution and in the west i barely worry.

  25. Yes I do feel safe in my neighbourhood, I live near St-Thomas so its mainly all families around my house. I feel safe walking around the streets alone at any given time. Also there is a police station across the street so that makes me feel safe knowing if i call they can be here right away. All of my neighbours are relatively nice and i know i can go to them if i ever need something. There isn't a lot of crimes of any sort, i mean obviously there is little things like drug arrests but those are everywhere. In the end i know I'm safe in Pointe-Claire.

I feel that my neighbourhood is very safe because I never heard about a crime near my house. Why I think my neighbourhood is safe is because we have most of the time we have public security circulating the town of Kirkland. I live near a park so most of my neighbours are family's with kids. So I am very lucky that I'm growing up in a safe neighbourhood. My neighbours are very nice and I trust them if I ever needed help I would be able to ask them for help.

  27. I think it is very safe I live on a quite street and there not much going on and it is very good that I live so close to a hospital. All in all I don't think you can really make it safer but if I could I would move it a little farther from the main road because noise pollution isn't safe.
